About Our Social Groups

Spears Learning Center offers various social groups led by Speech Language Pathologists (SLP). Social groups are carefully designed to cater to the child's age, verbal behavior, and social skills. We work with children between pre-school, early elementary school ages, and elementary school ages. Speech Language Pathologists target skills such as greetings, initiation and termination of social interactions, turn taking, and engagement of eye contact during social interactions. Behavior Line Technicians or line therapists accompany the SLP to provide a higher ratio of teachers to students and to deter problem behaviors. In addition to the targeted social skills, academic skills and higher level functioning skills including, executive functioning tasks, phonemic awareness, auditory comprehension, reading comprehension, sequencing and expressive language, are addressed during social groups.
